The School of Applied Creative Arts & Design (SACAD) from Han Chiang University College of Communication embarked on an exciting exploration of Kuala Lumpur’s art world, visiting some of the city’s well-known art venues and landmarks and giving students the opportunity to interact with the artists and their works.
The trip took place from Friday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7 and included visits to art galleries and art exhibitions to give students a taste of the culmination of art and life.
The dean of SACAD, Mr Lim Thoong Soon said that the event aimed to expose students to contemporary and modern Asian painting and sculpture, and to develop their communication skills, as well as to provide opportunities for the student-teacher collaboration to broaden their horizons and enhance their learning initiative.
The event had a full programme, with Ilham Gallery being the prime location to visit. Ilham, as a high-level gallery in Kuala Lumpur, had always been active in supporting and participating in the development of Malaysian contemporary art.
According to Lim, students could enjoy artworks based on a variety of themes, including personal, political, and historical, as well as witness artists’ creativity and imagination through paintings, handicrafts, videos, and sculptures at the Ilham Gallery.
The National Arts Centre was also one of the locations where students could visit the National Permanent Collection Exhibition – NUSA, which showcases the country’s permanent collection and provides students with an understanding of the distinctiveness of local art.
The students also went to the Malaysian Illustration Exhibition, a first-of-its-kind event organised by the local illustrator community that drew over 50 renowned local and foreign illustrators who aimed to promote their craft and work while also sharing their creative stories on the spot.
Students also visited some of Kuala Lumpur’s famous landmarks during the event, including the Petronas Twin Towers and Berberian Square.
