Han Chiang University College of Communication’s (HCUC) Lim Lean Teng Hall is filled with jubilance, joy and laughter in their 2022 Graduation Ceremony today.
Following a two-year suspension of in-person graduation ceremonies due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the resumption of physical graduation ceremonies creates euphoria amongst HCUC students, friends, parents, and academics as they eagerly witness their friends, children, and students walk with tremendous enthusiasm on the stage to be rewarded with scrolls for their years of efforts and hardwork.
A total of 288 students have joined today in their graduating robes and hats, with 183 of them from the 2022 class followed by 105 students from the 2020/21 class who only underwent a virtual graduation ceremony owing to the pandemic. Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree students will both attend this year’s graduation. The occasion also honoured 14 students from various schools with Best Students Awards, which included Diploma and Degree graduates (winners’ list attached in Appendix 1).
“Education is about growth, not just about grades. You have adapted and grown in this difficult time, which has undoubtedly enriched you and added to your academic success. While your tertiary experience is not quite what you expected, it should still be cherished. All the triumphs and setbacks you and your fellow students shared together have given you a remarkable bond and made your path unique,” the HCUC Vice-Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi said in his congratulatory speech.
He also reminded that HCUC is an intellectual home of the HCUC graduates and expressed his hope of seeing them to be in touch with the University College in various capacities where they can mentor and be mentored by experienced alumni with the opportunity to expand their knowledge and network.
“You, your family and friends, and all of us are proud of your achievements, as you are graduating from HCUC. The knowledge and hands on experience that you have gained during your time in HCUC equips you to make a difference to change the world and shape the society for the better. As Janet Napolitano said, “You don’t go to university so you can punch a clock. You go to university so you can be in a position to make a difference,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
