School of Communication and Media dean Dr Jane Teh Kate Yng and School of Business and Management lecturer Dr Teoh Siau Teng were conferred their PhD at Universiti Sains Malaysia’s 56th Convocation Ceremony, yesterday.
They received their doctoral degrees in the field of Environmental Communication and Business Management, respectively.
Dr Teh said she was delighted to finally receive her scroll after taking six years to complete her dissertation entitled Perspectives of Local Communities on Nature Conservation in Taman Negara Pahang, Malaysia and Khao Yai National Park, Thailand.
“It was a challenging journey for me, especially during the first year of my study where I had to juggle between studying and looking after my newborn twins.
“However, pursuing my PhD has taught me to be a strong person because it required me to be patient, determined and disciplined throughout my studies.
“I am blessed for getting so much support from my family,” she said adding that she would like to write more journal articles after this as part of her academic development.
For Dr Teoh, she described her PhD journey as a long and tough process, nevertheless, through it all she was able to develop herself in becoming a better person and academician.
“It was a tough journey filled with many challenges both academically and emotionally for the past four years, but it was worth it!
“To be honest, there were many times when I felt lost and confused, but I was very lucky to have a strong support system from my family, peers and not forgetting my lecturers and supervisor.
“I hope I will be able to put to use what I have learned and help my students as best as I can,” she said.
Congratulations, Dr Teh and Dr Teoh!
