Three students who are currently pursuing their 3+0 Bachelor of Communication degree from University of Southern Queensland, Australia (USQ) at Han Chiang University College of Communication have been selected as the winners of the USQ International Partner Student Award.
It is a prestigious award that is conferred to outstanding international students of USQ studying with its partner institutions all over the world.
Ching Zhi Yin, 22, Keng Hui Yuen, 22, and Tan Zhi Shing, 22 each won AUD 500 (RM1,500) for being selected as the winners, due to their academic achievements and extracurricular activities.
“Receiving this award marks a significant chapter in my life as a degree student.
“I had previously considered quitting my current part-time job to focus completely on my studies, but surprisingly I managed to juggle my studies with my job through bullet journaling, a way of keeping track of tasks and projects,” Zhi Yin said adding that she also joined the Penang Table Tennis Association and played the roles of managing the public relations of the club.
For Hui Yuen, she has always been guided by her favourite quote by Thomas Fuller, whenever she faced difficulties in coping with her studies.
“One of my favourite quotes by Fuller is ‘all things are difficult before they are easy’.
“All of us will undergo adversity at some point, but we get better at handling challenges with time and practice,” she said.
Another winner, Zhi Shing said it would be impossible for her to win the award without the guidance and assistance from all the lecturers who have taught her.
“I would like to express my gratitude to them (lecturers) who have been patient in teaching and guiding me through every difficulty encountered during my journey as a student here.
“The lecturers are helpful and concerned about the progress of the students. All of these factors have created a better me,” she said.
The awards will be presented to the students by USQ’s Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts executive dean Professor Barbara de la Harpe during the HCUC Graduation Ceremony, which will be held on September 29.
