In conjunction with the 10th anniversary celebration of the Dato’ Boey Eam Seng Golden Achievement Award (GAA) ceremony, Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) proudly unveils three new categories of awards in addition to the 13 awards for students. The new honours include the Long Service Awards, Research Incentive Awards and Media Awards.
This year’s ceremony not only applauds exceptional accomplishments among students, but also extends recognition to esteemed long-serving staff, academics who are active in research and the invaluable contributions of media practitioners.
The Vice Chancellor of HCUC, Dr Beh Kok Hooi said the Long Service Staff Award will be presented to staff members who have served HCUC for 10, 15, and 20 years, demonstrating HCUC’s appreciation for their dedication and commitment.
“HCUC’s current success is attributed to the hard work and commitment of its loyal staff.
“The Research Incentive Awards is to instill the research culture in HCUC besides recognising academics who have published research papers in indexed journals. It is important for lecturers to be active in research ,” he said.
Dr Beh stressed the importance of lecturers’ research contributions to the success of an academic institution.
“The Media Award is introduced this year in recognition of the contributions of media practitioners in Penang to society. Truth and accuracy are key elements in news reporting, in order to enable the public to make informed decisions.
“To ensure the credibility of the academic awards, HCUC has invited scholars and industry professionals to serve as judges for various student awards, including Tan Sin Chow, the Assistant News Editor of The Star, Dr. Nur Shazana, a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA, Earth Picture Production’s Founder, Chong Boon Yee, among others.
“This year’s theme titled, “Celestial Glory,” was chosen to coincide with the Mid-Autumn Festival which falls on the date of the ceremony. This festival symbolises reunion, harmony and gratitude, with the full moon representing unity and completeness. The theme highlights the importance of gratitude during the journey to success and the significance of community and collaboration.
“The theme also signifies recognition and praise for those who receive the awards, as well as the determination and courage to explore uncharted territories and tap into future potential. It represents the ceremony’s leadership and authority in the industry and era, indicating that the ceremony will lead the industry forward, serving as a flag bearer and leader of the times and reflecting HCUC’s aspirations for the future.” he said.
Penang Han Chiang Associated Chinese Schools Association Board of Directors Vice-Chairman, Dato’ Boey Eam Seng has been the main sponsor of the Golden Achievement Award since 2013, and to express gratitude for his long-term support, HCUC renamed the award to the “Dato’ Boey Eam Seng Golden Achievement Award” in 2018.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Dato’ Boey Eam Seng’s sponsorship of the Golden Achievement Award, HCUC will also be launching the Dato’ Boey Eam Seng GAA 10th Anniversary Commemorative Publication.
The award ceremony will take place on 29 September from 6:00pm to 10:45pm, at the Lim Lean Teng Hall. The event is expected to be attended by over 400 people and will include a banquet, as well as captivating song and dance performances by HCUC students.
