PENANG: The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Han Chiang University College has donated food supplies to Ru Yi Children’s Home, an orphanage based in Mt. Erskine, George Town.
The donated items, worth RM150.35, include food supplies such as cereals, cooking oil, rice, and biscuits. They were funded primarily through a charity bazaar event held by the SRC last February.
The items were transferred from the SRC to Ms. Ong, the caretaker of the orphanage.
SRC chairperson Cassandra Ong stated that the aim for this donation event was to help underprivileged children through the cooperation of HCUC students.
“I hope the student’s generosity will help develop a new generation of mature intellects,” she said.
Ms. Ong, the caretaker of Ru Yi Home, expressed her gratitude for the donations.
Furthermore, she welcomes any new donations for the orphanage, highlighting that it is important for new donors to ask for required items before making a donation.
“Donors should understand that informing us prior to making a donation will help reduce wastage on unnecessary items.”
She also said that besides food, most orphanages are lacking in stationary supplies.
