GEORGETOWN: Penang Han Chiang Associated Chinese Schools Association received donations totalling RM300,000 from Han Chiang High School graduates, various associations and private organisations in an event held yesterday at Lim Lean Teng Hall.
Committee member, Gan Hock Hoe said that it is unfortunate that all three affiliates of Han Chiang (Primary School, High School and University College) were struck by two major floods on 15 September and 5 November respectively.
Approximately RM300,000 will be used to repair amenities in the computer labs, libraries and classrooms damaged by the floods. He also added that the graduates of Han Chiang High School circa 1968 to 1992 and other associations generously stepped up to donate when the association asked for donations to aid in restoration of the institutions.
“The graduates of Han Chiang High School and other associations have offered their monetary support and some even asked the public for contributions,” Gan said. Gan further claimed that the donations will be divided among Han Chiang Primary School, Han Chiang High School and Han Chiang University College to repair the damaged equipment and facilities.
On behalf of Penang Han Chiang Associated Chinese Schools Association, Treasurer of Han Chiang Board of Directors, Dato’ Seri Hong Yeam Wah received the donations witnessed by the Chairman of Han Chiang Board of Directors, Dato’ Seri Ooi Soo Hing.
