PENANG – Rejoice fellow students and staff of HCUC and Penangites alike. The long awaited Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) has been greenlit and will be funded by the federal government.
In a video posted by Penang DAP on Facebook, our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave a speech on the matter.
During the speech, the Prime Minister mentioned that the federal government would be adding funds to the scheme to enable Penang to implement its LRT project immediately. Additionally, the Prime Minister also said that he would gather with the state minister on the matter of discussion on how they could set up a scheme for the funding of the LRT project.
Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, in a Facebook post hinted that the announcement for the Penang LRT project was a Hari Raya gift to Penang.
He also stated that with an LRT system in Penang, it would solve the traffic congestion problems.
The LRT is planned to span from Bayan Lepas all the way to Georgetown. Furthermore, the Bayan Lepas LRT will cover a distance of 22km, with a possible extension of eight more stops in the future.
