Penang Green Council and Moku-moku co-organized The 2 nd Penang Green Carnival 2017 at Spice Arena, Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang last weekend from 10 am to 6 pm.

The project aimed to create environmental awareness among Penangites and visitors, empower Penang citizens/students to take tangible actions against climate change and to spread the message of protecting the environment through visual art and media.

The main highlight of the carnival was the display of the biggest collage made of recyclable items which broke the Malaysia Book of Records. The giant collage, measuring 30.9 metres by 6 metres was the brainchild of Head of School of Applied Creative Arts and Design of Han Chiang College, Lim Chun Woei. Playing the role of the Art Director, Lim led his students to involve the visitors at the carnival in creating this giant collage.

“The collage will be proposed to be placed as a prominent exhibit at key locations in Penang as Penang International Airport, The Top (Komtar) and Setia SPICE Convention Centre,” Lim said.

“We wish to involve the visitors in creating the collage with the intention of giving them a hands-on experience on promoting Green Living”. “We hope to spread the awareness of preserving the environment through visual art and media,” he added.

Other highlights at the carnival include talks, fun learning activities for adults and fun-filled games as sand art colouring competition and ‘I am little Green Chef’ competition for children.

The organisers also gave away lucky draw prizes and Moku-Moku DIY Mushroom Box. “We picked up various tips on recycling discarded items and making our homes a healthier place to live,” said Chan Mei Tze, 47, who visited the carnival for the first time. “My children enjoyed the dough making competition which was fun and educational,” she added.

Penang Green Carnival which was held on Saturday and Sunday attracted 57 exhibitors representing various private companies and non-governmental organisations.
