The Penang Amazing Orchid Show amazed many flower lovers recently at Fort Cornwallis in Georgetown.

The event which was jointly organized by the Federation of Malaya Orchid Society (FOMOS) and the Penang Tourism Development & Culture Committee displayed more than 300 subfamilies of orchids.

FOMOS Vice President, Tony Tan said “the goal of organizing the event is to promote Penang as an orchid-growing state and educating the public on how to grow and care for orchids”.

“Famous subfamilies of orchids including Cattleya, Dendrobium, Phalaenopsis and Vanda are displayed for the public,” he added.

In conjunction with the show, a one-day conference was also held at Royale Chulan Penang from 9 am to 5pm on 26 August which included talks on topics regarding orchids such as tissue culture, conservation techniques and orchids with medicinal purposes.

The show attracted about 2,000 people from a range of orchid enthusiasts to nature lovers during the 3-day exhibition.
