More than 30 secondary school students participated in Behind the Scenes – High School Media Camp, which was organised by Han Chiang University College of Communication’s (HCUC) Community Service Society, recently.

The camp was held for three days in HCUC  where participants aged between 15 and 19 years old  were introduced to the field of broadcasting and had  hands-on learning experience on the diverse aspects of broadcasting such as filmmaking, broadcast production and editing.

Lecturer advisor Lee Kean Wei said this was the first such event being organised by the society and he was glad to see the student participation came from not only the Northern region,  but also the Southern region of Malaysia too.

“Broadcasting world is interesting, yet challenging. Those who are keen to venture into this field should equip themselves with relevant skills, which would be useful for them in the future.  

“This is what the camp was created for. We also educate them on the media ethics that they need to adhere to, especially in this digital age.

“We hope all the participants would gain some knowledge on the broadcasting industry throughout this three-day programme,” he said.

Meanwhile, organising chairperson Goh Kah Kheng said he was impressed with the  effort put in by all the participants in producing their short videos, be it a documentary, short drama, corporate video or commercial, which were screened to the family members on the final day of the camp.

“For the younger generation, it is normal for us to just watch movies or videos from television and the Internet without knowing how they were produced.

“Thus, the purpose of the camp is to expose the participants  to what is normally happening ‘behind the scene’ every time a production takes place. It’s not easy to work together and produce a project without any mistakes,” he said.
