Han Chiang University College of Communication’s (HCUC) mass communication students successfully organised an environmental campaign, entitled Ecovery, which was held from July 18 to July 23.
HCUC Lecturer and Campaign Advisor Eric Shaun Seaton said he encouraged the students to organise such a campaign as part of their Sociology assignment, which at the same time would be a good platform to increase awareness about environmental issues among HCUC community.
“In order to instil the awareness as well as to take up the responsibilities for protecting the environment, they must apply the 5R principles in the campaign, which are rethink, reuse, recycle, repurpose and reduce.
“Organising an environmental campaign is not an easy task, but I am proud that they managed to do this within three weeks by incorporating the elements of Sociology that they have learned throughout this semester,” he said.
Ecovery Campaign featured various activities such as a recycling competition, a costume competition using recycled materials, a talk by the Penang Green Council officer, a handcraft workshop, a clean-up of the HCUC compound and an educational visit to the Tzu Chi Foundation.
Ecovery Campaign President Annissa Affandi said the campaign is an effort to awaken the public’s environmental awareness, especially among young people.
“We hope this campaign will benefit many people and motivate them to keep conserving the environment,” she said.
