PENANG – Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) attracted 91 students from more than 30 Thailand schools to its 5-day and 6-day English teen camp, starting from the 3rd of May to the 8th of May 2023.
The camp, titled “Discover Penang with English”, was organized by HCUC’s Centre for Languages and International Office, which encourages Thai students to speak English, facilitate the cultural exchange between two countries and spread the reputation of HCUC internationally.
Many Thai students aged 13 to 20 signed up for the camp. Aside from joining the English classes conducted by HCUC’s lecturers, they will also be brought on a city tour of Penang as two separate groups, where one group was a 5-day camp, while the other was a 6-day camp.
“Most of the countries speak English, if you’re on a vacation or living in different countries, at least you have some form of basic communication”, said Suphakrit, a 13-year-old Thai student from Mahavajiravudh Changwat Songkhla school.
He expressed that this was his first time being outside of Thailand, his mother discovered this event on social media, he was interested and immediately asked for permission to join.
“I didn’t expect HCUC to be this huge, I’m surprised”, he said.
“The event last year was fun, and so I’m here again”, said Samantha, the student who joined the similar event in HCUC last year. Her passion for learning English had not faded, and she’s looking forward to make new friends and improve her English skills.
“This is my first time, I wanted to practice my English skills”, said Pranisa. She hopes to communicate with others fluently in English.
