Han Chiang University College of Communication’s (HCUC) students organised two campaigns, entitled World Eat Up and Heartlert Awareness, recently.
The events, which took place at HCUC, were organised as part of their MC205 Introduction to International Politics assessments.
Heartlert Awareness focused on increasing public awareness and knowledge on heart disease, whilst the World Eat Up was a mini food fair event, which featured about 20 stalls with foods originating from countries such as China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and USA.
Heartlert Awareness organising chairperson Long Man Teng said although Heartlert campaign focussed on heart disease, the team tried to incorporate with fun activities such as zumba and futsal tournament.
“Many are aware that heart disease is one of the global health problems, hence the purpose of the campaign is not only to educate the public, but also highlight to them that prevention of heart disease is crucial, which can be done through a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
Besides zumba and futsal, Heartlert also invited consultant cardiologist Dr Ong Hean Teik to give a talk on Healthy Living to Protect Your Heart.
Meanwhile, World Eat Up organising chairperson Chew Ru Xuan said she believed that the food fair would not only act as a platform to introduce various types of international foods to the public, but could attract people to learn more about other countries through an exhibition and quizzes.
“World Eat Up is a combination of an international food fair, exhibition, performances and quizzes.
“Besides enjoying a variety of foods, the public can test how well they know about other countries. These would definitely make the campaign more fun and meaningful,” she said.
