PENANG – In a celebratory event at JEN Hotel, the Rotary Club of Penang marked its 94th Presidential and Board of Directors Installation Ceremony on 9th August with several milestones, including the chartering of the Rotaract Club of Han Chiang University College (HCUC) and the induction of HCUC’s Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Dr. Beh Kok Hooi.
Emceed by Jervanne Lee Heng Wey, a Rotaractor from HCUC and Dato Tharuma Rajah, the event was filled with moments of camaraderie and purpose.
The evening commenced with a grand entrance of distinguished guests, including District Governor Arvind U. Gopi Kumar and President Dr. Amreet Singh Gill. Dr. Amreet initiated the proceedings with a toast to Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di Pertuan Agong, followed by incoming president Carson Toh’s toast to Tuan Yang Terutama Yang Di Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, honouring both national and state dignitaries.
The evening progressed with a toast to Rotary International delivered by Organising Chairman Mr. Chandra Segar, underscoring the global reach and impact of Rotary’s humanitarian efforts. Dinner was served amidst speeches and acknowledgments, including a speech by Dr. Amreet highlighting the club’s achievements over the past year.
A pivotal moment arrived with the installation of President Carson Toh, symbolising continuity and leadership within the Rotary Club of Penang. Former president Dr. Amreet conferred the President’s Jewel upon Mr. Carson, signifying the transfer of responsibilities and vision for the upcoming year.
In a heartwarming gesture, the Interact Club of Chung Ling High School presented a generous cheque to the Rotary Club of Penang for the Polio Fund, showcasing the spirit of community support and collaboration among youth organisations.
A highlight of the evening was the chartering of the Rotaract Club of Han Chiang University College and the Rotaract Club of INTI Penang International College. This milestone marks the official entry of both clubs into the Rotary family, promising new avenues for youth leadership and community service.
Furthermore, the induction of Associate Professor Dr. Beh Kok Hooi and Chief Executive Ms. Hemalatha Murugiah into the Rotary Club of Penang exemplifies Rotary’s commitment to fostering leadership and service-oriented individuals within the community.
The evening concluded with a toast to the guests, emphasising fellowship and the spirit of Rotary’s enduring mission. All attendees continued to celebrate the achievements and commitments made during this auspicious ceremony.
With these milestones, the Rotary Club of Penang reaffirms its dedication to service above self, welcoming new members and expanding its impact in the local community and beyond.
