Han Chiang University College of Communication’s student Aaron Lim Pek Qin is all smiles on learning he will be receiving a bursary for his degree course fee for the next two years.

Lim, who obtained a Diploma in Mass Communication from HCUC in December 2017, said the “saving’’ on course fee is quite a lot and very helpful for students like him whose families are from the average-income group.  

“I appreciate and thank this good initiative from HCUC to help students from low and middle income families pursue their higher education. Also, with credit transfer, we can complete our degree programme and graduate in two years, if not we have to do three years,” Lim said when met after receiving the bursary certificate from HCUC vice-chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi during the April intake Orientation Day.

Lim, 22, is taking up the Bachelor in Public Relations (Honours) programme, after having worked for a year as an events coordinator at a hotel.

He said the lecturers at HCUC are friendly and very approachable for consultations and there is no barrier. “When studying for my diploma, I learned quite a lot and gained knowledge.”

“In this ever-changing world, we must continue to upgrade ourselves to remain competitive in the job market. Obviously, it is very important that we get a degree in our respective field, so we have more choices in our career direction,“ he added.

Another mass communication student Choo Li Ying, 21, is equally optimistic that having a degree will help a person to self-develop tremendously. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Communication (Advertising) (Hons). 

After obtaining a diploma in mass communication, with an option in broadcasting, she went to work as a part-time waitress at a cafe.

“At that time, I was still undecided on wanting to go for media production or advertising, although I love to take video. After talking to my friends and seeking advice from seniors and my former lecturers at HCUC, I realise that I am more suitable for advertising.”

Logistics management student Tan Yin En is looking forward to getting his degree in logistics at HCUC two years from now, and join the job market quicker.

Tan 21, obtained his Diploma in Logistics Management at HCUC in January this year. He then made a comparison with other university colleges in the country on the fee and duration for degree programmes offered at HCUC.

‘’I find that the fee at HCUC is reasonable and very affordable. Besides, I can get my degree here in two years instead of three years at another college,”said Tan, adding that logistics is becoming an important field in the job market.

Freshies Lee Pei Yoong and Goh Tian Hui are excited to start their new chapter in higher education. Lee is pursuing Diploma in Mass Communication while Goh is taking up Diploma in Business Management. Both are among the recipients of the Chancellor Scholarship.

Lee, an SPM/UEC student, said she chose mass communication as she felt it “is more active and exciting.’’ She said she chose Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) to take up mass communication because HCUC is very popular in Malaysia when it comes to mass communication programmes.

Lee, previously from Phor Tay Private School, also appreciated HCUC’s good gesture to provide financial aid to students  in terms of scholarships, bursaries and rebates.

She said she would need to polish up her English Language because it is a very important medium for job seekers.

Goh said she opted for business and management as she wanted to follow her father’s footstep in doing business. 

Her cousin, a graduate of HCUC, had recommended her to come and study at HCUC.
