PENANG: Students who are keen on pursuing a business degree that will allow them to take on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) can now register for Han Chiang University College of Communication’s (HCUC) newly-minted Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) programme which will commence in August 2021.
“This three-year programme is specially designed to empower graduates with the skillsets necessary to survive and thrive in this increasingly challenging digital world of business,” Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) Programme Manager, Dr Teoh Siau Teng said.
“This programme is supported by a team of qualified and experienced academics. We have also appointed the Director of Non-thesis Program, Putra Business School, Professor Dr Huam Hon Tat, as HCUC’s School of Business and Management Adjunct Professor.
Professor Dr Huam has received many industry and academic accolades, the most recent being the Best Professor in Marketing in the Golden Globe Tigers 2019 from the Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management and World CSR day & World Sustainability. He has more than 18 years of teaching and hands-on experience as a business practitioner. As adjunct professor, Professor Dr Huam will be involved in the academic matters of the Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) and School such as teaching, curriculum development, supervising and examining students’ theses and final year projects and conducting webinars in marketing, entrepreneurship, customer relationship management, sales management and consumer behaviour,” Dr Teoh said.
“In cognizance of the fact that today’s environment is driven by digitalisation, big data, google analytics and artificial intelligence, learning for our Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) students extends beyond the classroom.
“We engage with the industry to afford students of this programme an opportunity to experience real life business experience through a four-month industrial placement and work integrated learning business management projects.” To ensure that students of this programme get the best industrial experience, HCUC has sought collaboration with the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC), which is highly recognised by the public and private sectors as one of the strongest commercial institutions with ISO 9001 certification in the country. The areas of collaboration include internship, organising of events, seminars, workshops and competitions and guest lectures, among others. Through this collaboration, students will be able to keep abreast of the latest business trends and enhance their graduate skills resulting in an effective transition between university life and the business environment.
“Students also get to participate in a series of webinars, seminars, workshops and guest lectures which will be delivered by academic and industry experts who will impart their knowledge and share experience on the latest business trends and technology.
“The first webinar on Artificial Intelligence in Digital Marketing will be presented by the Academic Director and Senior Lecturer of Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Professor Dr Teoh Teik Toe, on 11 September 2021. Professor Dr Teoh who teaches Business Analytics and AI subjects has more than 25 years of research experience including Big Data, Deep Learning, Cyber-security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning and Software Development. Besides that, he also has more than 15 years of teaching experience in AI, Data Science and Analytics, Statistic, Business, Finance, Accounting and Law. He has more than 50 publications including journals, conferences and books.
“Students of this programme have the option to specialise either in Marketing or Finance depending on their field of interest. This means that the programme not only equips students with general business management expertise but also specialised knowledge in the areas of marketing or finance, hence providing them a wider range of career choices.
“Among the courses offered are Business Information System, Business Research Method, Quantitative Methods for Business, Digital Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communication, Product and Service Innovation Management, Financial Markets and Institutions and International Finance.
“Business diploma graduates can transfer up to 50% credit units of prior college courses (terms and conditions apply), enabling them to complete the programme in under three years,” Dr Teoh said.
According to Dr Teoh, the Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) programme is also offered on a part-time basis to enable working adults to attend classes outside normal working hours. Whether they are enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis, students taking this business degree will not only be industry-ready but they will also be able to pursue their postgraduate studies in business administration, management, marketing and finance studies upon graduation should they intend to embark on an academic career.
There are three intakes a year – April, August and November with the first intake commencing on 30 August 2021. Special promotional packages await the first cohort of students.
The Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) is a new programme initiative by HCUC’s School of Business and Management. This initiative offers the Diploma in Business graduates a pathway to pursue their undergraduate studies. Besides the Bachelor of Business Management (Honours), the School also offers the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Diploma in Business Management and Diploma in Logistics Management.
