The Break of Dawn committee members donated shotgun microphones and wireless microphones worth RM3,840 enabling Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) students to utilise them for their assignments and projects.
The Break of Dawn is a final year screening premiere of the graduates from the January and April 2018 intakes. The intakes consist of 20 broadcasting students from Diploma in Mass Communication and three Diploma in Broadcast Journalism students.
The Break of Dawn Vice President, Khoi Wei Li said a set of the short gun microphone and wireless microphone costs RM380 and RM780 respectively. Before deciding on the equipment to be donated to HCUC, the committee members, according to Khoi, had gathered information about the equipment that is most needed by students for their assignments.
“After receiving information from HCUC, we discovered there is a limited number of recording equipment available for the students, therefore the shotgun microphones and wireless microphones,” saysKhoi who hopes to experience high-quality short films in the future from the students.
Also, Lee Kean Wei, HCUC Head of Broadcasting said future students should be inspired by their seniors to practise the culture of giving back to the institutions that have helped shape their life.
“The students’ practice of donating broadcast equipment to HCUC can be considered as a wise decision of using the remaining money collected from the screening to provide new equipment to the university college,” he said.
Lee said he appreciated the efforts the students had put into the screening despite the Movement Control Order (MCO) which was held on July 31, 2020.
“During the MCO, the students had put all their concerted efforts to attain sponsorships and sell their screening tickets online as they could not go out of their home during the lockdown,” he said.
He encouraged students from other courses to utilise the equipment for their respective assignments by filling an equipment booking form on Google Form and receiving the approval of their respective lecturer. The students need to pay a deposit of RM300 to the finance department and show the receipt to Tarren Tan, the person-in-charge of the equipment.
