PENANG – Han Chiang University of College of Communications (HCUC) marked a significant milestone today as it entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea University of Media Arts on 29 January, paving the way for a collaborative journey towards academic and cultural enrichment.
The MOU was signed by HCUC’s Vice-Chancellor, Associate Professor Dr Beh Kok Hooi and the representative of Korea University of Media Arts, Dept. of Film Production, Professor Kim Yong Chan.
Designed to facilitate both long-term and short-term academic and cultural exchanges, the MOU embodies a commitment to international cooperation and the advancement of educational opportunities for students and staff alike.
Through the signing of this memorandum, students and staff from HCUC and Korea University of Media Arts will have access to a diverse array of programmes such as joint short production, international student and staff exchanges, internships, dual-degree programmes, all aimed at broadening horizons and nurturing cross-cultural understanding.
In his speech, Associate Professor Dr Beh expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration represents a gateway to diverse perspectives and global competencies for both our students and staff.
“This synergy promises to elevate the scholarly discourse and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in our respective fields.”
Likewise, Senior Professor Kim Yong Chan from the Department of Film Production who represented Dr Yoo in leading the delegation, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the transformative potential of cross-border collaboration in shaping the future of media and communication education.
Meanwhile, Professor Jung In Sun said that the MOU will enable their University’s Department of Film Production to collaborate with HCUC’s School of Communication & Media to jointly produce a short film in the near future.
“The signing of the MOU between both institutions heralds the beginning of an exciting chapter in international academic cooperation, one poised to enrich the educational landscape and empower future generations of media professionals. It will also significantly bolster the academic research capabilities of both HCUC and Korea University of Media Arts, facilitating the exchange of scholarly information and educational resources.”
