Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) students and staff can now access Penang Digital Library’s (PDL) facilities and e-book collection with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations on November 25, 2019.
On hand to sign the MoU were the Penang State Deputy Secretary (Development), Dato’ Azhar Haji Arshad and HCUC’s Chief Librarian, Mohd Jafri bin Abdul Wahab. The ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy General Manager of the Chief Minister Incorporated, Bharathi a/p Suppiah and Vice Chancellor of HCUC, Dr Beh Kok Hooi.
Among the benefits spelt out in the MoU include:
● HCUC Staff and students are given priority to use the facilities at PDL;
● They enjoy free e-books at PDL and HCUC library; and
● They are given a 50 per cent discount to rent rooms at PDL.
“This is a mutually benefitting MoU because it also allows programme collaboration between HCUC and PDL.
“HCUC is lucky because PDL is located in the vicinity of our University College. As such, the opportunity with PDL must not be wasted,” Dr Beh said.
Bharathi a/p Suppiah said that HCUC students would be the primary beneficiaries of this newly-forged affiliation.
“We would like to see the number of HCUC community log in to the PDL system increase.
“We are also looking forward to receiving online materials from HCUC,” she said.
Bharathi further indicated the possibility of launching a new branch of the digital library in Butterworth in 2020.
Meanwhile Dato’ Azhar said that the MoU also aims to encourage both PDL and HCUC organise programmes together and jointly promote PDL to the public.
PDL which is also known as the Library in the Park,is the first of its kind not only in Malaysia but also in South East Asia. It is linked with the resource-rich national library that contains more than 20,000 free e-learning materials.
