More than 30 Han Chiang University College of Communication’s (HCUC) students and staff participated in the hiking activity organised by its English Society at the Youth Park, recently.
English Society president Ryan Ooi said, the hike, which was the first activity conducted by the society after its establishment in August, aimed to give a different approach to learning English through fun activities, besides increasing the bonding among the HCUC community.
“Instead of just focusing on the ‘regular’ hiking activity, we try to incorporate it with entertaining elements, such as testing students’ ability to work as a team by communicating in English.
“This would make the activity more interesting, and at the same time it can also motivate the students to keep improving their English language skills,” he said.
English Society lecturer advisor Arif Bahari Mohamed Musli complimented the committee for putting in great effort to organise the hike and hoped for more fun-filled activities in the future.
“I believe the hiking has served its purpose as a tool to attract more students to get involved in English related activities and instil confidence in them to use the language,” he said.
After the hiking, the participants took part in other activities such as charades and synchronised dancing.
