Han Chiang University College of Communication’s (HCUC) Mass Communication students successfully organised a stage play entitled ComMadnication, recently, as part of their MC106 Communication Theories assessments.
Lecturer advisor Eric Shaun Seaton said a stage play was chosen as the course’s assignment as he felt that it would provide a new perspective for students to learn more about Communication Theories.
“Rather than depending solely on lectures, students need to be more exposed to the theories especially on how we use them in our everyday lives.
“By doing this play, students would realise that they may have either applied those theories in their lives or know the existence of them without they realising it before,” he said.
ComMADnication is about a newly-graduated doctor who has to deal with three asylum patients. The difficulties to handle them made him want to resign, but he started to find out that the patients were just communicating in a different way, which made him apply communication theories to heal them.
Eric added that he was proud of the students’ ability to transform the knowledge they have obtained in classes into an informative yet humorous play.
“The play was somewhat unexpected in the right areas, whereby there were some spontaneous dialogues that made the play funnier and entertaining,” he said.
