The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Han Chiang University College of Communication, in collaboration with HCUC School of Applied Creative Arts and Design (SACAD), is organising a drawing competition which features the challenge of designing the ideal HCUC canteen. The competition, titled ‘My Ideal Canteen’, is open to all HCUC students.
Mr Lim Thong Soon, Dean of HCUC SACAD, said that he had decided to open submissions for the drawing contest to the general HCUC student population, as the canteen at HCUC constitutes a shared facility among all HCUC students anyway.
“After receiving student submissions for the drawing competition, the lecturers of SACAD will choose ten of the best student pieces for appraisal by the HCUC board of directors. The selected pieces will subsequently be used as inspiration for improvement of the appearance of the HCUC canteen,” Lim explained.
Lim added that this competition is the first activity that SACAD has organised in collaboration with SRC. He hoped that the partnership would facilitate future collaborations.
HCUC SRC Event Coordinator Department Leader, Janice Ooi said that improvement of canteen facilities is a common suggestion raised by HCUC students in their responses to HCUC’s survey of student satisfaction with regard to campus facilities.
“Participation in ‘My Ideal Canteen’ drawing contest will be a great chance for students to illustrate the changes they want to see in the canteen of HCUC. Having their suggestions expressed in the form of artwork provides the SRC committee members with visual representations of ideas on how to improve the canteen,” Ooi said.
Students participating in the ‘My Ideal Canteen’ drawing contest stand a chance of winning up to RM 200 worth of cash prizes. In addition, the art piece that accumulates the highest number of ‘likes’ on the SRC Facebook and Instagram page during the period of December 14 to December 18 will earn the artist a RM 50 cash prize.
All students are limited to submitting one piece of artwork, and they are required to draw their artwork on A3 sized canvas using colour pencils, water colours, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. The completed artwork needs to be submitted in JPEG format.
Students can submit their artwork via the Google Form which can be accessed by scanning the QR code in the drawing contest poster below. The competition will be held from November 28 to December 12. Details of the ‘My Ideal Canteen’ drawing contest will be posted on the SRC Facebook (HCUC Student Representative Council) page, and SRC Instagram (@hcuc.src).
