PENANG: Students from the Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) gathered at the Multipurpose Hall to show their appreciation for the hardworking and dedicated lecturers by organising the Hello Lecturer event on Lecturer’s Day during 11 October.
The Hello Lecturer event was organised by the degree in media production and advertising students as a part of their self-development course taken during the semester. Although the event was planned three weeks prior, it was successful as lecturers who attended the event were left gleeful and cherished.
Lecturers began showing up at the Multipurpose Hall at 9am where they were treated to a light breakfast and were warmly welcomed by the president of the Hello Lecturer event, Bryan Wong Weng Kit.
Before the fun and games began, the lecturer advisor of the Hello Lecturer event, Ms Nur Adillah Binti Maaz kick-started the event by giving a welcoming speech to the esteemed lecturers by highlighting how lecturers inspire their students to do well not just in academics but in society as well.
“As educators, we not only impart knowledge but also inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning. Each of you plays a vital role in shaping the future, and your impact extends far beyond the classroom.
“Let us take this opportunity to reflect on our achievements, share our experiences, and strengthen the bonds within our community. Together, we can continue to elevate the standards of education and inspire the next generation.” she said.
The event continued with a dance performance by the Han Chiang Dance Club and a guessing game, where lecturers were asked to match the illustrations drawn by the event committee to whichever lecturer looked the most similar to said drawing and was followed by the main event, the crowning of the Lecturer Awards.
The awards categories were split into; The Silent Sage, The Life of Lecture, Adorable Lecturer and No Mercy Lecturer Awards. Each award was used to describe the unique teaching styles and personalities of each lecturer during the event.
HCUC’s vice-chancellor Associate Professor Dr Beh Kok Hooi presented the champion awards to the School of Communication and Media Dean, Mr Chuah Chin Guan for the Silent Sage Award, Mr Eric Ooi Boon Kheng for the Life of Lecture Award, Ms Jayslyn Saw for the Adorable Lecturer Award, and Mr Loy Jia Shin for the No Mercy Lecturer Award.
As the event came to a close, the Hello Lecturer organisers played a heart-warming video to show how the students truly appreciated their lecturers and thanked them for their hard work, dedication and commitment to making the students’ academic lives here truly memorable.
