Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC)’s first campus election to form its Student Representatives Council (SRC) has commenced.
The students-run election got off to a good start with a media conference by the Election Organising Committee, during which the names of eight candidates were announced.
They are Joan Chong Eileen and Charis Wong Pei Yi from the School of Communication and Media, Tan Jing Lin and Goh Jing Yang from the School of Business and Management, Tan Yi Yoong and Chow Chee Keong from the School of Applied Creative Arts and Design and Chan Sze Hwa and Lee Jia Pin from the School of Chinese Studies.
From the eight nominees, four will be elected for the post of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, while the other four will be elected as committee members. The campus election will be held on May 23 at HCUC’s MPH (Multi-Purposes Hall) from 9am to 3pm and the results will be announced at the Conference Room, Block C, at 5pm.
Election Organising Committee president Bu An Gel said it is compulsory for all HCUC students to cast their votes, including the nominees themselves.
She said when formed, the SRC will be the voice of the students body that will focus on students’ development and their rights to voice out.
“The formation of SRC is very crucial because it will represent the students’ opinions and voices to work for the betterment of HCUC students as well as for HCUC,” she said.
Essentially, the SRC will comprise the restructured Students Council and Students Ambassador Society. SRC will also manage and administer all registered HCUC Student Clubs and Societies.
HCUC’s Student Services Executive Vivian Teng said the formation of the SRC is required under the University & University College Act 1971 Constitution for University College as the governing authority and spokesperson for students welfare.
Present at today’s Press Conference were HCUC Vice-Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Ms Jenny Khoo and Head of Administration Ms Ng Li Leng.
