Title: The Curling Tree
By Melissa Lim YiXian
Inspired by this photograph I took in late November:
Beware the curling tree, that branches twist and turn,
Walk under It, and you will visit your urn.
For the tree, is haunted by a ghoulish spirit,
That consumes the souls who pass through It.
Beware the curling tree, sinner or not,
For It does not care as long, you’re in Its pot.
The sprites and fairies are Its snacks,
But It could devour a wolf, even the whole pack.
Beware the curling tree, but do not be afraid,
For humans, you can persuade.
Be mysterious and keep It in a trance,
Make sure you’re confident with your stance.
Beware the curling tree, but when times are dire,
Just remember It is scared of fire.
Bring a match or two with you,
And trust the Mother Moon times two.
