The pandemic serves as an obstacle for many. However, final year students of the two programmes, Diploma in Mass Communication and Diploma in Broadcast Journalism, are undeterred in their academic journey at Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC). They have decided to organise their final year screening premiere online.
The virtual screening of “R.I.D.E. The Wave” is set to premiere via livestream from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm on its Facebook page on December 30, 2020. This year, a total of three production groups will showcase their short films, public service announcements, and documentaries.
The theme, “R.I.D.E. The Wave”, captures the spirit of preparedness for any form of challenges. These final year students believe that they must be ready, mentally and physically, to meet the challenges of the future and its uncertainty. The acronym R.I.D.E., stands for ‘Remarkably’, ‘Imaginative’, ‘Determined’, and ‘Emphatic’.
“All of the production groups must not shy from being imaginative and creative in producing a unique and interesting plot for their respective short films. Moreover, the production group needs to stay consistent with their original ideas during the shooting process” said Ng Zi Ying, President of “R.I.D.E. The Wave”.
Ng expressed that organising a virtual screening has been more challenging than expected, because coordination of activities and discussions among committee members cannot be carried out in person.
“When we discuss ideas online via chat messages, our messages can be easily misunderstood by the recipient. We need to discuss ideas with each other in a more extensive manner until we reach a collective decision,” she said.
Tickets to the premiere screening are worth RM10 each, ticket sales beginning from now until December 10, 2020.
