With the third stage of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in place, HCUC wishes to explore the perception of the public towards its extension and how it may have an impact on them.
Sim Qiao Ru,Diploma in Mass Communication (Year 1)
Qiao Ru believes the pandemic could be effectively contained with the extension of the MCO although she has to cancel her existing plans.
“If the third-stage of MCO can yield positive results of decreasing the number of infected people, I am totally in favor of a fourth-stage MCO until we achieve zero infection,” said Qiao Ru.
She predicts it will take a few months to redirect the society back on track. Her travelling plan with her family has to be canceled due to MCO, however, she is using her free-time to improve her drawing skills by watching tutorial videos.
Yang Wei Ni,SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman, Nibong Tebal (Form 5)
She agrees to the extension of the MCO, because the number of cases is still relatively high. In order to prevent more people from being infected, the MCO should continue until the situation is completely under control.
She said the MCO has brought a great impact on her studies. Despite the feasibility of online teaching, she finds attending classes is much better as it is quite hard to convey her messages or doubts to the teacher through online tools.
Chan Lin Soi, HCUC student’s parent
Chan Lin Soi said that there is a need for the Malaysian government to extend the MCO as the pandemic might become worse if proper measures are not adhered to.
He said the MCO forced him to cancel plans to travel to Kuantan with his family. On a routine basis, restriction to go to shops is a major problem too.
“Restoring social operations is not a simple matter, at least a few months are needed. We should continue to stay at home if the pandemic is not completely eliminated,” he said.
Dr Yang Jie, Head of International Office of HCUC
Dr Yang Jie said that although the MCO has caused a great influence to our daily lives – from economic to religious activities, we must cooperate with the government to battle against the pandemic.
During the MCO, although he perceives online communication as a viable means of communication, it also means that individual freedom to conduct outdoor activity is strictly prohibited which might affect one’s physical health.
“Social development is a continuous process. This pandemic has had a huge impact on its development in the world. It may take some time to recover even after it reaches an end.”
