GEORGE TOWN: Students of Bachelor in Public Relations (Hons) from School of Mass Communication, Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) organized the Think Green Campaign at Penang Science Cluster on 22th Feb and 23th Feb 2020.
The event was supported by Think City and Green Smith while Penang Green Council endorsed it. Think Green campaign director Ooi Juu Yenn feels that even small actions could create massive impacts. This campaign was held at Penang Science Cluster as they wanted to relate the green activity with science and technology.
Among the highlights of the first day were the Penang Green Council’s sharing sessions on waste, workshop on soap production and a quilling workshop. Followed by two Macrame workshops on the second day. Other all-day activities comprised of an art exhibition on waste segregation, movie screening, green market and book exchange sessions.
Ju Yenn hopes that everyone present will not only think green, but also act green by practicing mindful and responsible consumption. Inspired by United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Penang2030 vision, Think Green seeks to educate and sensitise environmental issues to ensure appropriate safeguarding efforts are initiated and to promote a sustainable consumption pattern among consumers.
HCUC Lecturer and Think Green Campaign Advisor Nur Adillah binti Maaz stated that the students did an outstanding job in organising this campaign as they proactively contributed and executed the event as a team.
“The two-day campaign is truly a tough assignment for the students as it tested their leadership and management skills from the beginning to the end of the project. With the tight deadlines and assignments from other subjects, the team managed to pull through and made this happen. I am very proud of them,” said Nur Adillah.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Project Manager of GreenSmiths Ms Kang Yue Shern, Representative of Penang Science Cluster Ms Natashya Evaristus, Co-Founder of Penang Hills Watch Datin Dr Kam Suan Pheng, Founder of Green Origin Ms Beh Pei Ling and Founder of Remix Paper Art Mr Sittos Chang Ping Yong. Nearly 400 people were present to support the event.
