Han Chiang Student Representative Council (SRC) and Han Chiang International Office collaborated to organise the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration for the SRC members and international students. The celebration was organised with the aim of enhancing awareness and appreciation for international friendship and culture.
The activity consisted of multiple games, where SRC members and international students were organised into different groups. One of the games included a station game where the teams had to visit three stations – the tongue twister station, word association and singing, and solving a mathematics question.
Dr Yang Jie, Head of Han Chiang International Office, added that the International Office and SRC had previously collaborated to organise a few activities together, like a picnic and a Christmas party in 2019. Such activities have encouraged the SRC members and international students to make friends and build bridges.
He added that the celebration was meant to be a source of comfort for the international students who would not be able to return to their home countries due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) which began in March.
“The Mid-Autumn Festival activity was organised to create a sense of community for the benefit of the international students who are unable to return home,” he said.
Dr Yang Jie said there will be more activities lined up for the participation of HCUC and international students after the pandemic is better contained.
Eugene Zhao, a HCUC student who is originally from Jiangxi, China, said that he had initially hesitated participating in the activity due to personal matters. Howere, he realised that joining the activity was the right decision.
“This is the last gathering where I can finally meet my friends and HCUC students before returning to my home country as I will be only coming back to HCUC in April next year,” Zhao said.
Lee Yuan Run, SRC Head of Publicity Department, said the Mid-Autumn Festival activity is a chance to engage with the international students and understand their culture and life.
“It was a memorable moment for me because I was able to explore and learn more about the international students during the games. I’ve become their friend,” Lee said.
Lee said he would like to learn more about the Mid-Autumn celebratory activities of other countries.
“From my conversations with a Taiwanese student, I learnt why Taiwanese citizens will organise a barbecue with their friends and family members during the festival,” he said.
