Do you have what it takes to be a media star?
Han Chiang College will kick off auditions for Host Idol 2017, in its search to spot some of the country’s media host personalities.
Auditions will take place 31 March and 1 April from 9am-5pm at Han Chiang College for categories in Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mandarin .
Running for the second year now, the Host Idol contest aims to discover some of the youngest talents who aspire to become TV hosts, famous YouTubers, deejays, journalists, newscasters and broadcasters.
Open to secondary school students from Form 3 to Form 6, the competition is a platform for students to follow in the footsteps of other upcoming social media figures like Jenn Chia and accomplished presenter Marion Caunter.
This year’s Host Idol 2017 will look for charismatic personalities who love creating interesting content to share with people online and offline, and are not camera shy.
Future presenters need to be comfortable performing in front of the camera and face the pressures of delivering newsworthy stories with creative angles to hook in the audience.
Principal Dr Beh Kok Hooi said there is a need to sharpen students’ talents at a young age and build their confidence.
“This competition will train students to produce fun snack-bite videos while learning to increase the content’s viral potential.
“Many organisations are branching out from their parent company. There is AJ+, The Star Online and the rise of young YouTubers who first started creating catchy content and have now become famous spokespersons for big brands,” Beh said adding that the competition gives everyone a decent shot to make it into the industry while highlighting the importance of media convergence.
The first round of auditions will require the participants to play different media roles in various situations. 45 students will then be shortlisted to attend workshops on deejaying, YouTubing and broadcast performance. With the newly acquired skills, students will play the role of deejays and produce their own radio programmes. The top 15 students will be chosen to become YouTubers to produce their own video clips in the finals.
The winners and finalists will receive prizes and scholarships worth more than RM150,000. The most supportive school will also be rewarded.
The sponsor for the Host Idol 2017 is Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake Alma Bukit Mertajam.
