Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) students have raised about one thousand ringgit in cash and kind through a donation drive titled “Gift of Love” to provide support to the Ramakrishna Ashrama orphanage in Penang.
About RM700 were collected from HCUC lecturers, staff and students. The amount was used to purchase additional daily necessities such as Clorox, biscuits, plastic files, dish wash, air fresheners, juice, soap and hand wash liquid. The students had earlier collected these items which also included clothing, drinks and stationery when they went around the campus to push for the donation drive.
Event chairperson Cham Soon Kit represented the team to hand over the items to the orphanage.
He thanked HCUC lecturers for their advice and guidance and the contribution from HCUC staff & students to make the project a success.
“We are happy that we are able to collect a lot of items from staff, lecturers and students from HCUC. I would like to take this opportunity to thank their contribution. I would also like to thank lecturer Ms Shanjutha for her guidance and help when we faced problems. And I would like to thank my team members, without them, I couldn’t make this happen,” said Cham.
Ramakrishna Ashrama chairperson Mr K. Ramasamy said: “Our sincere thanks and gratitude to Han Chiang University College of Communication for their noble contribution to the Ramakrishna Orphanage.”
The donation drive titled “Gift of Love” was carried out by six degree students at HCUC cafeteria from June 19 to June 25 (12pm – 2pm) to collect items needed by the orphanage.
All the six degree students are from the School of Communication and Media. The project is being carried out in line with the students’ Self-development MPU (Matapelajaran Umum) course.
Three of them are pursuing the Bachelor of Communication (Advertising) (Hons) while another three the Bachelor of Communication (Media Production) (Honours).
