Led by Penang Han Chiang Associated Chinese Schools Association Executive Advisor-cum-HCUC Chancellor Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Tan Kok Ping, JP, the delegation presented the Home with four wheelchairs, five bath chairs, adult diapers, gloves, foodstuffs, and other hygiene products. Han Chiang had raised some funds to purchase these items.
Also present were Han Chiang Board of Directors Assistant Honorary Secretary Dato’ Tan Soo Nam and Supervisor Dato’ Choo Chiang Meng, HCUC Vice-Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi and HCHS Principal Miss Kung Bee Lee. The Chairman of the Home, Loh Yeow Boo was also present.
The visit was made more memorable when the students took the opportunity to clean up the Home’s compound, wards and multi-purpose halls.
The residents of the Home were treated to a performance of dances and songs by HCPS students, a diabolo by HCHS students and a magic show by HCUC students and by Eric Ooi Boon Kheng, a HCUC lecturer.
Some residents joined the students in painting and origami sessions as well.
Light refreshments were also offered to the residents.
This community service project successfully instilled greater awareness among the younger generation on filial piety, love and respect for the elderly.
Earlier in the morning, HCUC Vice-Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi, Han Chiang High School Principal Miss Kung Bee Lee, HCUC Dean of School of Business and Management, Dr Lim Hui Ling, staff and students of the three Han Chiang institutions were present at the Lim Lean Teng Hall of Han Chiang High School to gather the donated items for the Home.
