Bryan Chuah Pei Jun is a student of Diploma in Multimedia Communication Design at Han Chiang University College of Communication. He is also a skillful badminton player. He has been playing badminton since he was nine years old. Bryan cites his father as his biggest influence.
“My father is the one who has been bringing me to join badminton training and develop my interest in badminton. He has also been bringing me to the training sessions so I can improve my badminton skills,” said Bryan
Bryan also finds inspiration when he watches our National Hero Datuk Lee Chong Wei in action. He still remembers the day when he was watching the 2008 Olympic finals between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan.
“I was impressed by Lee Chong Wei’s determination of not giving up in every match that he plays,” said Bryan
Practice makes perfect
During badminton competitions, Bryan will fully focus on boosting his brain power and improving his reflexes.
“If you love badminton, it’s like a responsibility to yourself that you have to do well. hen you can achieve your dream, but need to bear in mind. Hard work does not guarantee winning but if you do not work hard, you will not even stand a chance to win,” said Bryan
Bryan also suffered an ankle injury during a badminton match. His ankle was swollen the next day and he is afraid that he will not recover in a short period and might hang up the racquet for some time.
Despite that, he never gives up and always reminds himself to be careful during training and competition to prevent any further injuries. Athletes will inevitably lose in the game sometimes, but for Bryan, whenever he loses a game, he will spend the whole night to recall the flow of the whole competition and try to understand the parts that require improvement. In addition, it is important for Bryan to decide how to prevent repeating the same mistakes for the next match.
Bryan has won many awards such as CRC Inter Team Tournament 2016 Champion, CRC Inter Team Tournament 2017 Champion, Penang Sports Club Junior Tournament Under -17 Singles Runner Up in 2017,Penang Sports Club Junior Tournament Under -17 Singles Doubles Champion. In 2017, Bryan won the Penang Sports Club Handicap Tournament Men’s Doubles Championchip.
He said that these awards are motivating factors, as he still has a long journey to improve his performance in every game.
Hopes and dreams
“I know that the path to success is not that easy as everyone’s dream is to fight for being World number one or become an Olympic champion, so it becomes more competitive for me,” said Bryan.
He hopes to represent Malaysia at the Olympics one day.
