Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) students have had a good opportunity to brush up their English Language when they participated in the English Week 2019 activities which ended at the campus on Friday (June 21).
The English Week’s four events started with Lyrics Competition on Monday, Alphabet Game on Tuesday, Superhero Trivia on Wednesday and Describe Your Hero on Thursday.
The School of Languages and Translation and HCUC’s English Society hosted Superhero Trivia, which was the main event of the annual English Week.
Thirteen teams comprising students, volunteers and committee members of the English Society competed in the event. They were supervised by lecturer advisor, Arif Bahari.
They competed in a questionnaire within an allocated time and rotated in stations until all teams have competed in all the stations. There were questions on different heroes.
The event was to test the knowledge of the participants regarding the background of their favourite heroes.
Encik Arif said the Superhero Trivia exceeded expectations with a barrage of students flooding in to participate in the most sought-after event of the semester.
“It went well according to plan and was a lot better than I expected it to be.”
“All the volunteers and committee members from the English Society had given their best to make sure that the event ran smoothly,” he said.
English Society Vice-President Sing Yew Liang said the event went on smoothly and received an overwhelming response from the students.
HCUC Vice Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi closed the ceremony on Friday. Also present were Deputy Vice Chancellors Miss Jenny Khoo Gim Hoon and Dr Ooi Bee Peng.
Dr Beh said the English Week was a definite success.
“I could see from the video played that the participants enjoyed the activities organised.’’
Dr Beh acknowledged the effort of the organising committee and volunteers in organising the events for the students to learn English and at the same time have fun.
“Learning the English Language is quintessential for the students to be better prepared because it is important in the industry,” he said.
Dr Beh hoped English Week 2020 would be bigger and attract more students to join the events.
