GEORGE TOWN: Father’s Day is an opportunity to appreciate the contributions of our fathers to our families. Fathers are regarded as the patron saints of our family, shielding us from the wind and rain, and providing us with a better life.
My father is caring
Steven Tei Chuen Hau is a student who is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Communication (Media Production) at Han Chiang University College of Communication. He describes his father, Tei Teng Weng, as a person who is willing to protect the family and act
generously without expecting any favours from anyone in return. Despite his stubborn nature, Tei Teng Weng has never failed to be kind and caring to all. Steven says that his relationship with his father is like having an older brother, where they exchange jokes and laughter.
He would not forget the day when he was facing some relationship problems and his father helped by giving him some useful advice . His father would talk about the life lessons he had experienced over the years as a senior. Steven believes that the life lessons his father has given him will come in handy for his future.
Steven would like to wish his beloved father a ‘Happy Father’s Day’ and hope that his father is blessed with a happy and healthy life.
My father is talented and creative
Lim Xin Rou, a student of matriculation, describes her father Lim Gek Chai as a very talented person who can handle any difficult situation and enliven the atmosphere at a social gathering.
According to Lim, her father is also a very filial son who spends time with his parents and siblings.
“He’s a kind person who always lends others a helping hand. Other than that, my father is also frugal but generous. He likes to share delicious food with us,” said Lim
According to Lim, having a wonderful
father creates a good role model for the family. She admires her father greatly, and senses that there are many similarities between the two of them. They bond over their similarities and have a strong relationship.
“Our relationship is more like besties. Sometimes he behaves like a fan of mine by supporting, motivating and cheering for me every single time. He never fails to praise me and says that I’m like his idol. Every time I hear his heartwarming words, I feel happy and lucky to have a father like him ,” said Lim.
“My father is full of creative ideas. I remembered that when I was little, my father would use any random objects that he could find to create games that he could play with me. Every time we played such games, it was always me who would win the game which gave me the impression that I’m smarter than my dad. Today I’ve realised my father’s noble intention of letting me win every game to keep me happy. This has made my childhood memories so wonderful. Now when I’m older, we talk about our feelings and we share fun things that we experience in our lives. My father will always be my best supporter,” said Lim.
Father’s Day to Lim is not only a celebration but also a day that reminds us to always feel grateful to her father and express her appreciation for him.
Although she may not be able to meet her father as often as she likes, Lim feels that she is fortunate enough to be a daughter to her parents.
Every day is Father’s Day

To Jayden, Father’s Day is just a special day to appreciate the contribution of all fathers. Every day is Father’s Day.
“I wish to treat my father to a special dinner this year and I’ve also prepared a present to surprise him. But due to the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), we will probably just celebrate at home,” said Jayden.
My father is hardworking
According to Felice Yeap Zhe Jing, a student pursuing Foundation of Science, her father Yeap Hock Kee is a responsible person and always takes care of the family. He would not bring home any negativity.
She still remembers how her father worked very hard as a young man, as he would be always on his phone contacting his clients. Despite his busy work schedule, he would spend quality time with his family.
Her relationship with her father is still very close. Even though Felice has left home to further her studies in Kuala Lumpur, she would message or call her father twice a week.
Felice also shared one of her unforgettable memories as a young child. She remembered that she had travelled with her family once, but fell sick while travelling. She had to rest in a hotel room while her mother took care of her . Her father and siblings went out, and when they came back afterwards, he had brought with him a doll as a gift for his daughter to cheer her up. She had been feeling upset as she could not swallow the pills she had to take for her sickness. After that day, whenever her father went travelling, he would bring a doll for her as a souvenir.
To her, Father’s Day is the day that reminds us to appreciate everything that our fathers have contributed to our families. Sometimes we may forget that our fathers have worked so hard to support us financially working hard to.
Felice and her siblings usually make their father a greeting card and this year will be no different. However, in addition to making their father a greeting card, they would also like to bake a cake as a surprise for him as they have had plenty of time since the beginning of the MCO period to experiment with baking.
Lastly, she would like her father to not worry about work too much and to take care of his health. She would also like him to be positive and live a happy life.
My father is like a friend to me
Chan Shan Wei, a student pursuing a degree in Accounting, describes her father Chan Weng Kwan as humorous, responsible, handsome, and loving.
Shan Wei’s father is like a friend to her. He tries to make her laugh whenever she is sad. When she makes a mistake, her mistakes are pointed out and corrected by her stern father.
They get along like friends and have built a tacit understanding of each other over the years. They have a lot of topics to talk about. Sometimes, even when she looks into his eyes wordlessly, he knows her thoughts and feelings without the need for her to articulate them.
“One of the most memorable memories I have of my father is the time when we went for a movie together. The movie we watched was Night at the Museum. I remember that my father told me I must go to bed before 10.30pm every night. Otherwise those dolls in the museum would come alive when it is past midnight,” said Chan.
“She is really thankful to her father for bringing her into this world, and for giving her the chance experience the beauty that this life brings.
Father’s Day is just a special day for all of us to express our gratitude to our fathers. But we should not only be appreciating our fathers on Father’s Day. We should be grateful for our fathers all the time.
